Superb northern pike fishing

Our list of "TROPHIES" caught and released is large. More and more of our guests are catching these monsters during their trip. The size & number caught is increasing, and the missing year classes have been restored. Our largest was a 48 inch - estimated weight 31.5 lbs.

You'll experience the beauty and extensiveness of the Woman River Chain of Lakes that consists of eight  interconnected Canadian lakes & 50 miles of navigable water without stop. Each point, island, reefs, narrow or waterfall; leaves the mind in a state of frenzied 'fish-in' fever. The lakes are long and narrow, the depths vary from shallow to 130'.

We have ten portage lakes to add to the awesome  opportunities available at Canada North Lodge. The portage trips are short. The boats and motors are on site, all you need is your gear for the day.
A Real Trophy - 48 1/2 inch, weight 31#

Everyone always asks about the BIG trophy fish. Yes, we have trophy fish and lots of them,

At CNL, we offer unlimited quality angling opportunities on our chain of lakes, portage lakes, and fly-in trips. You can do it all in one trip. Our daily fly-in trips depart after breakfast and arrive back in time for dinner.  The float plane trip, aerial scenery, and the number of fish caught will make the fly-in trip a choice you won't regret or forget.

If you have been looking for an area where you are not confined to one lake, where you have rivers connecting lakes, where you can fish on the windiest of days, where there is a good selection of species, you need look no further. The Woman River Chain of Lakes offer the best in Canadian Angling.

The Conservation Policies at CNL

During 1989, The Lodge Owners for Wilderness Preservation  initiated a Conservation Policy. Our goal was to release the larger breeding size fish, while allowing take home limits of quality size fillets. This program promotes natural reproduction and development of a trophy class fishery.

  • Live release of all Walleye over 18"

  • Live Release of all Lake Trout over 25" - 22" after Sept 1.

  • Live Release of all Northern's  over 27"

  • Catch & Release of all Smallmouth Bass.

  • All Large Fish are Released, trophy mounts are reproduced with replica's.

  • Our portage lakes are designated as "Catch & Release".

Tackle

Our suggested equipment is as follow:

  • Light to medium action spinning or casting rods are the most popular

  • 6 to 8 pound line for jigs.

  • 12-15 pound line when using crank baits.

  • Lead head jigs.

  • Certain crank baits.

  • Spoons & spinner baits.

  • Good rain gear,

Important Fish Handling Techniques

  • If you are going to take a picture have the camera ready , take the picture & release as quickly as possible.

  • Don't handle the fish roughly - don't squeeze - don't let it bounce up and down on the bottom of the boat.

  • If the hooks are swallowed - cut the line and leave the hook in.

  • When released if the fish acts like it does not want to swim upright - hold it  loosely while moving the fish back and forth until it revives itself, usually in a flash and a splash.

  • Never throw the fish out of the boat, gently release it over the side of the boat.

  • Don't stress the fish by fighting it longer than necessary. As soon as possible land the fish or unhook it while in the water.

  • Go barb-less on your treble hook baits.

Replica Mounts

We have taxidermists that specialize in replica's that look like the real thing and will last forever. The price is the same as mounting a real fish. Very simply all you need is the length measurement.

"Catch & Release"

Our excellent angling opportunities is simple proof how to maintain a good fishery. It does not happen by accident . . it cannot be all take . . at CNL we practice a very strict conservation policy for all fish on all our lakes.

No big fish are ever taken out  . . they are all live released.

"Catch and Release makes the difference"
