At Canada North Lodge bear hunting is a yearly tradition. We pride ourselves in being able to provide our hunters with one of the best bear hunting trips available. Our 30+ years of commitment and experience and our history of happy hunters speaks for itself. This outdoor hunting experience can be yours. Your success is our success. Our goal is to provide bear hunters with a successful hunting experience.
The Black Bear population in our large Bear Management Area is excellent, and has never been over hunted. This area offers exclusive hunting for Canada North Lodge bear hunters and encompasses some 368 square kilometers. The BMA extends some 25 miles north of the lodge and is accessible by boat and vehicle, a large unlimited bear hunting opportunity.
We accommodate both bow and gun hunters and limit the number of hunters to 10 during any time period. This bear hunt is a combination fishing and hunting package and includes one guide per two hunters.
We provide 30 to 40 baited sites in historically proven locations of which are checked daily for bait and bear activity. The large number of baited sites provides our bear hunters with a good choice of sites and the capability to change sites if desired. These historic sites dramatically increase the odds for hunting success. The baited sites are ground stands/sites as we do not provide tree stands for liability reasons. If you desire a tree stand bring your personal tree stand with you and we will assist you in setting it up.
The area we hunt has a proven history of success - overall average around 60% - based on our 30+ years of experience. Honestly, we have had a few unbelievable 100% years and a few disappointing years as well. Weather and overall hunting conditions play an important role in each years results

Every hunter questions the size of our bears and if we have taken any trophies. Our largest was a record bear weighing in at an amazing 568 pounds. On average, a good adult bear will range between 250 and 325 pounds. Fall bears tend to be larger than spring bears which is another advantage to having our fall hunt that opens on August 15th. Our hunters also take smaller bears as it seems that bears tend to look bigger than what they really are when coming to the baits. If you are looking for that quality black bear come to Canada North Lodge.
After a hunter is successful in getting his bear the guide will assist in getting the bear back to the lodge and will skin and quarter the bear. The hide will be placed in the freezer for the trip home or to the taxidermist for mounting or for a bear rug. If you desire to have your meat cut up, wrapped, and frozen - we will provide you with an area processor. Processing fees are not included in the price.
Our bear hunts are a combination fishing and hunting package at no additional charge. If you want to do some fishing in between your hunting for bears, this is your chance.
Opening date is August 15th. For available dates and complete answers to your questions – interested hunters are encouraged to call us as we prefer to discuss the hunt personally with each hunter. 800-CNL-9812 or 217-259-6101
