 Our Bear Hunting Photo Album

A Big Ontario Bear

Have you ever had the thrill of seeing a big black bear in the wild? Would you like to see one? Black bears constitute one of Canada's greatest wildlife assets. The tourist, traveling with his family is thrilled at the sight of a bear in the wilderness. The hunter, escaping from the pressures of business and urban living finds solitude, and the excitement of the wild while quietly sitting on his stand while watching a couple of cubs playing nearby.

The Outdoor Experience

That experience can be yours. At Canada North Lodge we pride ourselves in thinking that we have one of the best hunts available. Our 25 years of commitment and experience in offering these hunts & our history of happy guests speak for itself. Our success story speaks well for us. It is our goal to see that you will get the best that can be offered. Your success is our success.

The Population is excellent

The population in our Bear Management Area (BMA) is excellent, and has never been over hunted. This BMA is a large 368 sq. kilometer area which provides almost unlimited baiting sites and is an exclusive area for Canada North Lodge and our hunters.

"The Area"

Our BMA encompasses 30 miles of water and land on the Woman River Chain of Lakes, 5 Portage Lakes just off the Woman Lake Chain, and hunting access to land on both sides of the Joyce Lake road which extends 15 miles to the north of our lodge.

 "A Trophy"

for a nice black bear in Ontario is between 275 and 325 pounds. This one - our largest weighed in at 568 pounds.

"Archery or Gun"

We accommodate both archery and gun hunters and limit the number of hunters per week to no more than 12 during any time period. Our packages are a combination fishing and hunting for those of you that want to do some fishing too.

Opening date is August 15th, 2002. For available dates and complete answers to your questions please call.

"Our Baited Sites"

We provide baited sites, 30 to 40, checked daily for bait and activity. The sites are set up and maintained a couple of weeks prior to your arrival and provide hit history and activity. This large number of sites provide hunters with an ample choice of sites and the capability to change sites if desired. Our 25 years of experience in outfitting these hunts allows us to set baits in historically known areas which in turn increases the odds for success.

"About our success"

The area we hunt has a proven history of success - 40% to 50% - on overall average, based on our 25 years as owners. We do not count missed shots or opportunities. Number of hunters divided by actual kill success is used for calculations. Being factual - we have had the unbelievable high % years and have had the disappointing low % years. Weather conditions and mother nature has control . . as hunters and outfitters we can only do our best. We are proud of these honest averages and feel the %'s are impressive.

Our hunt package includes:

  • Full American Plan Package - modern accommodations, meals, boat, motor, guide, gasoline, fish filleting service and daily maid service in the cabins.
  • Professional Guide Service - one guide per 2 hunters.
  • Combination Hunting & Fishing Package.
  • We provide baited sites, 30 to 40, checked daily for bait and activity. The sites are set up and maintained a couple of weeks prior to your arrival and provide hit history and activity.
  • Full Service Package, you bring clothing, gun and ammo, rod, reel, and personal items. Leave the rest to us.
  • A conservation fishing license is included.

About the area:

Make sure and bring your camera, wildlife is plentiful and the scenery is breath taking that time of the year. The population is excellent and is definitely not over-hunted as no one hunts these areas but ourselves.
